"Common is a 360-degree human being， and I don't say that about many people。 He never needed to "pimp the hood" to achieve his deserved success。 He is an eloquent and honorable role model and his memoir is a perfect example of his depth as a human being。 In addition， reading about his childhood and upbringing in Chicago is really a trip - because we went through so many of the same experiences albeit decades apart。 Chicago is still the roughest and primary "Institution of Hard Knocks，" and if you can make it there， you can truly make it anywhere！

Was an ok read， I increased the rating as it improved towards the end。 Prior to that， as much as I love Common， there was some repetitive things said。 I would have enjoyed as part of a conversation more than a book。 However it being a memoir and a level of transparency shown， it was cool。

Reading this book was insightful to learn Common has issues with allowing himself to fully embrace the ideal of how he chooses to love his partner， daughter， people and family。 The levels of loving people， children， wife， husband and God are all different displaces of meanings and emotions。

Good bookCommon has an overarching view of the word love and he uses the word in every paragraph of the bookI was not a fan of thisI did like how open he was at a few moments in the book， especially in the end when he talks about being molested as a childUnfortunately though， instead of this book being biographical it was mainly about his problems with intimacy and not letting girlfriends get close to himI would recommend this book to anyone who likes poetry

A man who is after God‘s own heart 🙌🏾 this book was a tap on the shoulder to let me know that I’m still human but to be a little more forgiving to others， even when they’re undeserving。 I LOVE how connected Common is to God， as we should all be。 To use the Bible daily as a guide through life。 I’m nowhere near Christ-like love because I still get angry， impatient， and sometimes prideful but so thankful that this book has reeled me in as a reminder that God isn’t done with me ❤️❤️

Common’s reflection on love is beautiful， and I think poignant， particularly in this age where vulnerability is an afterthought， or avoided all together。 To me， his musings felt very relatable， some of the same reflections I’ve had myself。 I enjoyed sifting through his thoughts but I can see how the book might lack appeal to some - it does feel like a journey thru his brain， nerve endings firing off。 It’s a quick， easy read。 3。5 stars。
